Workshop on CEDAW Mechanism and Inclusive Child Participation

20th to 22nd December 2024: Consortium Nepal and Saathi jointly organized a workshop on CEDAW mechanism and inclusive participation. The program was organized aiming to discuss critical issues related to gender equality, child rights, and the role of international mechanisms such as CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) and promoting inclusive participation. All the SANKALPA partners from different district make their participation during the workshop. Ms. Bandana Rana, CEDAW Member, delivered a comprehensive presentation focusing on the provisions and procedures of CEDAW, with a special emphasis on the rights of the girl child. She highlighted the importance of allies in advancing these causes and stressed the necessity of keeping allies for a larger social and political impact.

One of the event’s key highlights was the insightful session led by Mr. Chandrika Khatiwada, a prominent Child Rights Expert from Nepal. He focused on the rights, concepts, and legal system of child participation and the promotion of child participation. He explained the process of child participation, the main quality elements of child-led organizations, and the basic elements required for child participation. Mr. Khatiwada brought a wealth of experience and knowledge in advocating for children’s rights and emphasized the importance of child participation in all stages of project development and service delivery. He shared his expertise on how children’s voices can be meaningfully included in decision-making processes to ensure that their rights are respected and upheld.
